For the football families of New Canaan and Darien Thanksgiving only means one thing: the Turkey Bowl. This Thanksgiving, undefeated rivals New Canaan and Darien will not only be competing for bragging rights, but also for an FCIAC Championship title.

Since the Turkey bowl was started in 1994, New Canaan has been very successful with a 13-6-1 record against rival Darien. However, for the last three years, New Canaan lost, breaking an 11-year winning streak.  “The past two years I’ve been on the team, we’ve lost in this game, and we all have a sour taste in our mouths,” senior captain Alex LaPolice said. “I can’t wait to get out there and get revenge.”

Since this year’s Turkey Bowl is also the FCIAC Championship game, it will be held at Boyle Stadium in Stamford. New Canaan is coming off an impressive 47-16 win over Trinity Catholic as is Darien, coming off a 31-0 blowout victory over North Haven.

The 21st anniversary of the Turkey Bowl, and 87th meeting between the two teams is important for the senior players. “It’s important to the seniors, we need to win this game because this could be our last chance to take a shot at Darien,” Alex said.

This clash between the rivals will take place at 10:30 am on Thursday. While both teams hope to improve their record to 11-0 and take the FCIAC Championship title, only one will be able to accomplish this feat.
