The annual New Canaan Community Foundation’s volunteer recognition awards were held on March 4 at the Town Hall. In addition to the regular awards, there were also multiple youth awards, many of which were won by NCHS students. These youth awards included:
Youth MVP: Won by Jordan Alexander for his work with Building One Community
Youth Outstanding Group: Won by Dante Marsili and Graysen Handler for their work with Feeding 500 New Canaan Volunteers
Youth Rookie of the Year: Won by Will Taylor for his work with Open Doors
These awards are impactful for students, as they inspire others to participate in volunteering. “Recognizing the efforts of youth throughout the community can really help encourage youth students to get engaged with the community,” said senior Jordan Alexander.
Jordan works with Building One Community, an organization that helps immigrants integrate into the community. After being promoted to an ambassador, he started a Building One Community club at the high school in hopes of connecting more students to the organization.
“Seeing students getting involved can inspire others to get involved with organizations like Building One Community or even starting their own initiatives,” Jordan said.
