Midterm election keeps CT Democrats in office

Last Tuesday, November 2nd America voted in the midterm elections. The Democrats maintained their majority in the Senate but the Republicans gained control over the House of Representatives.  According to Yahoo and Google News, as of this coming January, the Republicans will hold 239 seats to the Democrats’ 188 seats in the House.  The Democrats will have 53 seats to the Republicans’ 46 in the Senate.

In Connecticut, Democrat Attorney General Richard Blumenthal defeated the Republican Linda McMahon, CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), for incumbent Christopher Dodd’s Senate seat. Mr. Blumenthal maintained 54% of the popular vote to Ms. McMahon’s 44%.

The Connecticut governor race between Stamford Mayor Democrat Dan Malloy and former US Ambassador and Greenwich businessman Republican Tom Foley was greatly disputed. The race was most recently reported in favor of Mr. Malloy with a 1% margin.

Democrat Jim Himes, another Greenwich man, maintained his place in the House of Representatives, triumphing over Republican Senator and Marketing Executive Dan Debicella.
