Students are getting into the holiday spirit, whether it’s by making Christmas wishlists, wearing ugly holiday sweaters, or finalizing winter break plans. The holiday spirit, however, comes from more than just presents and winter break. This month, many organizations at NCHS are spreading joy through giving to others.
Toys for Tots
Led by Student Coalition advisor Priscilla Schultz, StuCo is working with Charity Link to organize a Toys for Tots drive. The goal of the drive is to give children who are less fortunate a holiday to remember. According to Ms. Schultz, this is not the first Toys for Tots drive StuCo has worked on. In past years, StuCo has worked with Toys for Tots, and has decided to bring back the drive this year after taking a break last year in order to focus on in-school service projects.
Now that Toys for Tots has returned, students can donate new, unwrapped toys or monetary donations in order to buy additional toys. Donations will be collected in the main office and must be in by Wed., December 11.
Coat Drive
A new drive that is being held at NCHS is the Coat Drive. A school counselor at Barnum Elementary School in Bridgeport saw that some students were coming to school without winter coats, which prompted Ms. Schultz to initiate the drive.
So far, school faculty has been the only source of donations, though Ms. Schultz hopes students will participate and donate as well.
If you are interested in donating, drop off coats that are in good condition at Ms. Schultz’s office by Mon., December 6.
Canned Food Drive
An additional opportunity for students to give this holiday season is Ms. Schultz’s Canned Food Drive. The drive is a family tradition for the Schultz family, and all donations will be sent to the New Canaan food bank.
All donations must be non-perishable goods and should be dropped off at Ms. Schultz’s office by Mon., December 16.
