On March 6, the girls hockey team defeated Stamford/Westhill/Staples 3-0 to win their ninth state championship. The girls’ nine state titles is the most of any school since the first tournament took place in 2006, four ahead of rival Darien.

Senior captain Lexie Tully, junior Maddie Tully and freshman Maddie Rayher were the goal contributors in the game, the latter two scoring in the third period to secure the victory.

The win marks the girls’ third title in the past four state tournaments played, continuing their streak of dominance under Head Coach Rich Bulan, who has been coaching the team for over twenty years. The girls hold a 109-14-6 regular season record over the past seven seasons, winning over 84 percent of their games. The girls’ state championship comes after an 18-2 regular season and second-place finish in the FCIAC tournament. Their only three losses on the season came to rival Darien, who lost to SWS in the state semi-finals.

Freshman goalie Macyn Callahan continued her stellar season with a clean sheet and earned MVP honors for the game. It was Macyn’s 15th time holding her opponent scoreless on the season, and she also won Most Outstanding Player of the entire CIAC tournament.

Senior captain Katherine Rayher praised Macyn’s work ethic and dedication to the team. “Macyn greatly impacted our team this year,” she said. “She not only helped us win but is also a sign of the future that this team has.”

Lexie Tully described the feeling of winning her second state championship. “It meant the world to me to win the championship, especially coming off of a tougher season last year,” Lexie said. “Our team progressed so much throughout the year, and I speak for the entire team when I say we are extremely proud to reach our goals and accomplish what we did. As a senior, I have had an incredible four years on the hockey team, and it means so much to go out on a high note.”
