Boys Cross Country
Boys Cross Country finished their season on Saturday, October 28, in the CIAC Championship at Wickam Park. After a 12-3 regular season record, the team had high expectations for the postseason. The team took home 7th place behind strong performances from juniors Ryan Boulanger and Spencer Paine, as well as sophomore Braden Barber. Ryan finished a team high 18th place, with all seven runners finishing in the top 65.

Spencer was happy with the team’s performance. “It was hard because we one of our best runners, Jacob Kozar, was running with an injury,” he said. “But I think we all did the best we could, and are proud of we ran. Individually, I think I did really well, and can only look forward to getting faster and faster.”

Two weeks prior, the boys took home 6th place in the FCIAC Championship. Ryan Boulanger once again finished 18th place, running the 5k at a pace of 5:22 minutes per mile and setting a personal record with an overall time of 16:40.

Girls Cross Country
The girls cross country team finished the regular season with a 13-2 record, giving them high aspirations for the postseason. They competed in the FCIAC Championship on Wednesday, October 18, and finished runner up to Greenwich.

Head coach Jefferey Brentson was proud of his team’s performance. “We ran the best we could, they just ran better, that’s all there is to it,” he said.

Senior captain Elizabeth McLaughlin agreed with this positive sentiment. “The FCIAC championships were a major success,” she said. “We got second place and all five of the runners who scored points earned medals and FCIAC awards. Plus, shoutout to our freshmen Evie Dolger and Grace Pelleci, who scored first and second in the freshman race consecutively.”

After FCIACs, the team shifted their focus to the CIAC Championship, on October 28. Junior Charlotte Moor placed fourth with a time of 20:08 and junior Radea Raleva placed eleventh with a time of 20:37. Freshman Maggie Griener placed thirtieth, finishing first out of all freshmen. All of these individual successes contributed to the girls winning the CIAC Championship, taking home the trophy for the first time since 2019. Next, the team is competing in the CIAC State Opens on Monday, November 6 at Wickham Park.
