After coming off of a 23-5 overall record and a 22-3 FCIAC record, senior co-captains Zack Smith, David Giusti, Alex LaPolice, and Brandon Abate feel that the season went very well. Despite losing five key seniors, the Rams were able to finish the season with a positive record, beating almost every team in the FCIAC with one run wins against Westhill and on senior night, Westhill.

In the beginning of the season, many players believed that this year would be a low point for the team, but this theory was overtly contradicted. “We were supposed to be at the bottom of the FCIAC and really be no competition, but we beat almost every single team in the FCIAC,” Zack said.

After walk-off wins against Trinity Catholic and Greenwich, the season gave rise to many memories allowing the team to bond and the players to gain each other’s trust during tough games. “Trust is important because when the game is down to the wire and down to one play, you’re going to have to be able to trust them,” Zack said. “That trust and that bond is key, and I feel like we did a great job creating that bond this season.”

The Rams softball team fell only one win short of qualifying for the state tournament despite the season being a developmental year for the young group of athletes. Even though the team had an overall record of 7-13 this year, assistant coach Joel Geriak is anticipating a much stronger season next year due to the experience the players have obtained.

Of the 7 wins, Mr. Geriak is most proud of the win against Woodland Regional High School, a team located in Beacon Falls, Connecticut. “This was a team that beat us last year 8-1,” Mr. Geriak said.  “This year, we came back and beat them 8-1.” coach Geriak said. “It was the first game where the girls really came together as a team to string hits together and have tight defense.”

Mr. Geriak believes that although the season didn’t go exactly as planned, the team still progressed in a positive way. “A lot of young girls got a lot of experience against the best teams in the league, and it should be a fun season going forward in the next couple years,” Mr. Geriak said. “Over the next 2 years, because we are young, we are going to be a team thats a force to reckoned with.”
