Pictures of nervous junior boys holding a colorful bouquet and a sign that say “Prom?” now dominate Facebook. Conversation starters now only range from, “Have you found a dress?” to “Who are you going with?” From dates to dresses and corsages to cummerbunds, your prom struggles are covered.

Looking your best can be tricky. The current seniors had their fair share of Junior Prom dress mistakes and tuxedo fiascos last year. However, senior Chloe Demauro doesn’t have any regrets. “I absolutely loved my outfit,” she said. “It was open in the back, which I loved. It was classy, white and elegant. It was so simple and I didn’t go so crazy on the hair and makeup so it was very comfortable. I feel if you wear something scandalous you will always be worried about how your body looks, so go the comfortable route.”

As for the boys, senior Zach Allen weighed in. “I hear there is a debate on whether to wear cummerbunds or not to, but I am a cummerbund guy. Also, don’t even question traditional tuxedo color, absolutely go black and white, the tux and dress matching is just tacky,” he said. “You are not Jim Carrey from Dumb and Dumber, it is just so overdone. I mean if you are bold enough to do a nice white tux or even camouflage if you’re into that, go for it, but black and white is so classic.”

Once everyone has arrived at their pre-prom, more issues tend to arise. “I regret not having my pre-prom destination more planned out,” Senior Kerry Nowacki said. “I went to two and it was annoying and pretty unnecessary.”

Zach agreed that pre-prom can be the most stressful part. “My date actually stabbed me with the boutonniere. She got me right in the pectoral. I actually think I was bleeding,” he said. “Also at pre-prom when everyone is taking pictures, for all the guys wearing jackets, make sure you unbutton the buttons when you put your arm around your date because it makes you look fat if you don’t.”

Many seniors think the best part of the night is when everyone finally arrives at the Italian Center, where worries about hair and seating arrangements go out the window. “Once you get there just dance, dancing is so fun, just go for it, people will remember you as the kid who just took a risk and went for it at prom. I distinctly remember those people,” she said. “Also, put your phone in your date’s jacket, because when we got to the Italian Center I gave all my stuff to my friend, and she left. That was kind of an issue.

Zack shared similar opinions on the highlight of his night. “Hands down the dance off is the most enjoyable part. I only ate mashed potatoes because I was so busy dancing,” he said. “There will be a dance off I can promise you. People get in a circle and it gets heated”.

The main advice that was given to the nervous juniors is to relax. “Just go and have fun,” senior Grace Stryker said. “You don’t need to count down and leave after an hour. You are going to go to a post prom just chill out. No need to rush.”

“Everything will work itself out don’t worry about it, just enjoy yourself,” Kerry agreed.
