Quarantine gave us our first glimpse, TikTok piqued our interest in it, but the search for a perfect dupe created our addiction.

When our boredom during quarantine became so extreme that we resorted to styling our own hair, the Dyson Air Wrap made a timely entrance, taking the world by storm. Ever since its first appearance, people have been obsessed both with the five-hundred dollar device itself, and with proving whether or not it’s worth the splurge.

The Dyson Air Wrap was launched in 2018, but gained popularity by Christmas of 2019. When the pandemic forced us to quarantine in our homes, people began searching for new activities to quell their boredom. The Dyson Air Wrap was the perfect solution.

The Dyson Air Wrap comes with a drying, curling, blowout and brushout attachments that can be easily interchanged when drying your hair.

As the device began to go viral on the social media platform, TikTok, people across the globe began searching for a more affordable option: the perfect dupe.

Amazon dupes became popular at a much more affordable price, some only costing 30 dollars. TikTok reviewers went out, sometimes buying both the dupe and the original, to compare them for the world to see. Opinions varied: some said the dupes did a perfect job whereas others said nothing would beat the original.

There remains controversy surrounding the topic, so we asked New Canaan High School students their opinions to determine the truth: is the Dyson Air Wrap really worth the splurge?

Sophomore Tessa Riley argued that no dupe could compare to the original, which results in effortlessly voluminous hair.

On the contrary, Sophomore Nichole Nizzardo argued that the Dyson Air Wrap is not worth its hefty cost, and instead she uses the Revlon Hair Dryer to style her hair.

What do you guys think?
