The annual Through Our Eyes XII Exhibition, now in its twelfth year, recently opened its doors to showcase the best works of art from high school students. Held in collaboration with the Carriage Barn, the exhibition is open to the public between March 15 and March 30 and offers a platform for students to showcase their artistic talents in a more professional setting.

The show displays artwork of all mediums used in art classes.

The artworks selected for display are selected by the three art teachers: Kimanne Core, Maggie Pennoyer and Jennifer Sinski, who all teach different art classes.” We pick 50 to 60 works of art from any students that we have currently or last year that stand out to us,” said Ms. Core. The selection process aims to include a diverse array of mediums and styles, ranging from drawing and painting to film, photography, mixed media, and 3D works.

The opening night of the exhibition on March 14 was attended by family members, friends, high school faculty, and many more members of the local community. The evening featured a small awards ceremony where senior Kailey Marti was presented with a $1000 scholarship sponsored by the Carriage Barn’s Board of Directors to help further artistic pursuit. The art teachers also presented students with their 2024 Scholastic Art Awards. “Opening night is always really upbeat and happy, with refreshments and great lighting,” Ms. Core said.

Not only does the exhibition display impressive talent and hard work, but it also allows students to show a unique part of themselves. “It’s not just skill, talent, or the wide variety of mediums, but it’s self-expression, being brave, and saying who they really are,” said Ms. Core.

If you have the time this week, be sure to stop by the Carriage Barn to admire some student artwork. Some works are also up for sale, ranging from $75 to $150.
