Spirit Week is the one week of the year where outrageous costumes are the norm and the halls are filled with students who are all enthusiastic about being at school. All the activities and hype that the week has to offer all builds up to the annual Homecoming game and dance.

This year, Student Coalition and the PFA have worked together in changing the dynamic of the dance. Senior Class President Luke Crowley has been working to build everyone’s enthusiasm for the dance. “To date, we have about 300 tickets sold and we are still two weeks out,” Luke said. “StuCo is being helped by parents this year who are really passionate about making this Homecoming special and the best possible fundraiser for our senior class.”

Student Body Vice President, Sadie Seelert, has also been heavily involved implementing the new improvements.. “This year we added a really fun theme to it: Footloose,” Sadie said. “Also, this is a Sadie Hawkins dance, meaning girls ask boys. We are really excited and think that people are going to be eager to take part in it.”

After talking to students about what they wanted to see in a Homecoming dance, PFA mother Allison Barker, along with ten other parents on the PFA, decided to change some aspects and add new traditions that will make students want to come back next year. “There’s a new, outgoing DJ, lots of pizza and sweet treats, and even some fun surprises during the dance,” Ms. Barker said.

Bringing back enthusiasm for the Homecoming Dance is one way that the PFA is trying to enhance the Spirit Week for students of NCHS. “Homecoming Dance was a dying tradition; less and less students were showing up each year and when they did come they would leave early,” Mrs. Barker said. “This made us sad because Homecoming is supposed to be such a special week that is filled with tons of school spirit and fun for everyone.”

Sadie also has an opinion on how to make next week the best it can be. “I always enjoy going all out for spirit week. I think it’s a time to really express yourself and have a lot of fun,” she said. “It’s a week where you can have fun being you. Don’t be afraid to show up to school in something crazy.”

When asked to give advice to underclassmen for the upcoming week, senior Walker Ker gave his input on how to make Spirit Week the best it can be. “Don’t be nervous,” Walker said. “I feel like before spirit week all the freshman are a little nervous of being different and standing out. This week is really nice time to get into the community of NCHS”.

Tickets will be on sale at a table in the cafeteria everyday and online until the dance for $20. If you forget to buy your ticket, they will be on sale at the doors to the dance for $40.
