The News Section in the October Issue

Over the past month we have been busy putting together the news section. We are excited to welcome Lizzy Kilbride onto our editorial staff!

Because October is dedicated to Breast Cancer Awareness and Domestic Violence Awareness, we’ve dedicated space to covering these issues. We also have an article on the Polo Foundation, founded by senior Isa Carillo in support of horse slaughter prevention. Awareness is a key trend of the October issue and is echoed in the editorial.

There’s also a story on burglaries in New Canaan, which was triggered by a simple conversation among students in class last month. The article grew to incorporate the stories of three residents, two of whom are NCHS students.

The Financial Literacy Class, offered for the first time this year, was another topic covered in news this month. The article weighs the class from the viewpoint of administrators, teachers, and students.

Our front page story is about the visit of M.T. Anderson, the author of Feed. This article highlights what exactly Mr. Anderson thinks of his own work and our student body. Due to the timing of the visit, it came together very close to when the Courant went to print, and it was fun to have something begun and finished in such a whirlwind.

Earlier this month, we covered the senior Names Can Hurt assembly, publishing a story and a slideshow online.

We’re both excited to be reporting on the happenings at NCHS and can’t wait to see what the rest of the year brings.
