Debate team hosts November CDA tournament

On Saturday, Nov. 17, the November Connecticut Debate Association (CDA) debate tournament was hosted at NCHS. The debate team competed against 12 other schools in both the novice and varsity sections. Many novice pairs were undefeated after 3 initial 48-50 minute rounds were completed. Their 3-0 records signified that they were halfway to qualifying for the state championships.

First NCHS-hosted Debate Tournament

On Saturday, Mar. 5, the Debate Team co-hosted the Connecticut Debate Association tournament with Darien High School, splitting the state teams in half. Of a total of 360 debaters participating, 140 participated in NCHS. Being the first year that the debate team was designated as a legitimate interscholastic athletic team, spirits were high and students were ready to debate the topic of whether the U.S. should prioritize democracy over stability.

Pura Vida holds third annual Flag Football Tournament

The Pura Vida club hosted their third annual flag football tournament Sunday, November 8 on the water tower field. There were 23 teams and 151 players.

Sharon Knechtle founded Pura Vida at NCHS four years ago after she went on a mission trip with students. They enjoyed the trip and weren’t ready to have it all end, she said. As a result, they decided to make a year-round club dedicated to helping the world’s impoverished people.
