On Thursday, May 20, Ramstock, the annual battle of the bands, took place in the lounge as students came together to perform all types of music.
This year’s winner, Ballet for Athletes, won a $350 cash prize for their performance. Its members are juniors Lexi Bodick, Bridgette Lemoine, Sean Peterson, Ryan Timberlake, and Nick Zanca.“Ramstock was great, the turn out was surprisingly very big. All the bands really rocked it,” Ryan said. “We’re hopefully going to put our earnings into saving up for recording purposes.”
Besides going to see a number of bands perform, many students went to hear junior Chris Freeman perform his first official rap single, “Illest in the Game”.“A lot of people I know were really excited to hear Chris Freeman rap,” junior Henry Lloyd said. “That’s one of the reasons I went.”
Chris was excited to perform at Ramstock, and saw it as an opportunity to share his latest music. “[Ramstock] gave people something to talk about, and I feel that I not only impressed myself, but also the crowd with my performance,” he said. “The sheer amount of people that saw each band made it an incredible event.”
Senior Charlie Kelly described how Ramstock is an opportunity for student bands to come together and perform with one another.“I love Ramstock because it showcases what all of these student bands have been up to all year–what’s cool is that these are bands that kids willingly form outside of school with no incentive, yet there are so many and all are so talented. I love seeing that so many other people enjoy playing as much as I enjoy it,” he said.
“Despite the conflict with the lacrosse game, Ramstock was really fun, and there was a good turn out. It was a good time and I’m glad a lot of people came to support their fellow classmates,” Student Body President senior Dolly Meckler said.
