A new addition has been made to the lounge: a large whiteboard calendar that looks down upon the bustling tables and vibrantly decorated windows. Many have seen it while climbing the stairs or getting yet another cookie, but few realize where it came from, or why it’s there.

“I was actually college visiting this summer, and saw a students’ activities board next to the activities office,” said Student Coalition President Julia Harvey, who proposed the organizational board to her Student Coalition peers, all of whom responded enthusiastically. “I just thought, ‘That’s a really good idea.’”

After a visit to Flex-a-chart.com, the board was on  its way. But then a question arose: where should it be put? “[Initially] there was difficulty with the size,” she said. According to Julia, the board would look bulky in common student terminals like the spiral staircase or library, so the cafeteria stood out as the perfect place.  “[It] is a central location, where everyone visits everyday.”

“The board gives all students a common resource,” said Assistant Principle Ari Rothman, a strong supporter of the Student Coalition’s latest endeavor.  “I mean just walking down the stairs, the auditions for the next show are already up, and it gets people involved.”

“One of our goals this year in Student Coalition is uniting the student body, and this board helps us do that,” he said.

So far the board has been stuffed with events like the Turkey Drive, a popular and charity-driven activity run by the Student Coalition. If you have an event to add or even a birthday to announce, contact Julia here or at julia.harvey@sbcglobal.net.
