Steffi Badanes
Blogs Editor ’11-’12
After being part of the Courant staff for two years, as a reporter and blogs editor, my high school journalism experience is finally winding down. Throughout these past two years, I’ve discovered my love for sharing my opinions. After my political passions led me to start @Gov., I found my place in the blog section of the Courant. I’ve used my blog skills and interests while being the editor of the blogs section this past year. I continued to write for @Gov. and even helped others start their own blogs.
I’ve written many posts for @Gov. over the past couple of years, and I would like to look back at a few of my favorites:
The Issue of Abortion: Private or Public? -This is a topic I’ve always taken a strong stance on, and writing this post alongside Audrey Piehl really allowed me to be clear on what I believed. Since abortion has always been a controversial topic, I knew that being very up front could be risky. But I’m glad I didn’t hold back on anything I believed!
“Pass this bill” -This was one of those posts where I was just watching the news and couldn’t believe what was going on. I wanted to go to DC and scream at House Republicans. Since I couldn’t do that, I compiled my thoughts into this blog post.
Who should really control the birth control debate? -When the birth control debate was at an all time high, I spent a lot of free time at school having fired-up debates with some fellow classmates. I grew really frustrated at what I would hear, so I used @Gov. to show NCHS how I was feeling.
Being the blogs editor and writing for @Gov. has taught me the methods of opinion-based journalism. I’ll take what I’ve learned in NCHS journalism with me next year when I attend American University in Washington D.C., and I will be pursuing my dream of becoming the next Arianna Huffington!
