Tomorrow there will be a mandatory senior breakfast. Seniors will be excused from classes from 8-10:30 to learn about the transition from high school to college and life in college.
The first part of the event will take place from 8-9:15 in the College and Career Center. Members of the Board of Education, the Superintendent of Schools David Abbey, and a select cross-section of freshman college students will be chosen to represent different kinds of colleges and universities.
According to Susan Carroll of the College and Career Center, this will be a good way for seniors to see what college life is really like. “Rather than talking to a lofty college senior, it’s better to talk to someone who has a fresh look at what it is really like to be a newly minted college student,” she said. “The Board of Ed looks at feedback from the college students at the event to help make the transition easier from high school to college.”
The second part of the event will take place from 9:30-10:30 and will be run by the Parent Faculty Association and moderated by math teacher Chris Tournas and guidance counselor Lori Lewandoski. There, more current college freshmen will come to talk to the seniors frankly about college. There will also be a few adults there so that they can talk about their experiences through college.
As the name suggests, there will be a continental breakfast served at both parts of the event.
