On Friday, November 22, the Rams faced off against the St. Joe’s Cadets for the second time this season, battling for the title of 2013 FCIAC Champion. The Rams once again came out on top, outscoring the Cadets 31-20 and earning the FCIAC trophy for the first time since 2008.

This game proved more tense than the teams’ previous faceoff, with the first half of the game ending in a 14-14 tie. However, the Rams bounced back in the second half, scoring 17 more points while allowing St. Joe’s only 6 points.

Senior quarterback Nick Cascione was again a standout player for the Rams, named FCIAC MVP after the championship game. Despite returning from an absence due to a concussion against Wilton two weeks ago, Cascione totalled 258 yards, with 141 passing yards and 117 rushing. Cascione also ran the ball in for two of the Rams’ touchdowns.

The other scores came from sophomore Kyle Smith, who caught a 76-yd throw from Cascione to score the first touchdown of the game, and junior Frank Cognetta, who also totalled 176 rushing yards throughout the game. Peter Swindell aided the Rams in scoring, adding 3 points to the board after a 33 yard field goal.

Defensively, the Rams kept on the pressure, with seniors Mike Dicosmo and Max Wilson each with an interception. The defense, led by senior linebackers, and co-captains, Cole Harris and Mike Root, also cleared the way for the offensive drive, allowing for a Ram’s total of 478 offensive yards.
