Dress for less

Many of us have heard the buzz of Natalie Portman’s recent appearance last weekend at the 9th Annual New York Arts and Leisure Weekend.

She was spotted with a mustard Rodarte for Target slip dress, belted with a vintage black leather belt over one of her own black cardigans.

Not only did Ms. Portman pull off this ensemble, but the dress only cost $39.99!

Rodarte for Target is the new GO international collection, which is a program that provides affordable clothing created by world-renowned designers. Rodarte credits their favorite films that inspire their off-beat style: Bonnie and Clyde, Rosemary’s Baby, and Harold and Maude.

Today in honor of midterms and my minor concussion that turned me against louder music, I’m going to give you a few songs from my iPod that are more low key and relaxing.

Anyone remember a song called New Soul that was crazy overplayed in early 2008? After being used in a Mac ad it became a top ten hit, but almost no one listened to other songs by Yael Naim. This singer/songwriter/goddess is Franco-Israeli and has the most enchanting voice. Here is a live version of the recorded song Far Far that you can check out…

Student Stewart Taylor’s audition for American Idol’s “golden ticket”

If you thought you saw a familiar face flash across the television screen while watching the premiere of American Idol Season 9 this week, you were not mistaken. Junior Stewart Taylor sang his heart out in front of the judges at the show’s Boston auditions.

“The entire day was so surreal,” said Stewart of the experience. “I had been watching American Idol since I was seven or eight, and here I was, a 17-year-old, finally auditioning for it. I got to make my dream a reality…”

When freshman girls hockey player Olivia Hompe, had a hat-trick (hockey term meaning she scored three goals in one game) in last Monday’s game against Trumbull, she definetely proved her value to the team. The fact that she did this with a cast on a broken arm made her an easy pick for this week’s Athlete of the Week.

Olivia’s hat-trick led New Canaan to a 6-1 victory and their seventh consecutive win. Undoubtedly, this was one of Olivia’s favorite memories of the season, along with her team’s success in winning their preseason warmup tournament (a first for the team), where they were able to beat their rival, Darien…
