As the first day of Spirit Week — High Society Day — hits the NCHS community, students comment on some of their inspirations.

Senior Lauren Jansen, who came to school decked out in tennis apparel, said she drew inspiration from a music video. “It might be a little inappropriate, but in fifth grade there was this music video called ‘Tea Party.’ I was like, I’m going to channel that.”

“This is going to sound really [weird],” senior Paul Clemente said, “but I got the idea from shows like Gossip Girl — Chuck Bass to be perfectly honest.”

“I dress like this on a normal day,” junior Alyssa Thompson said. “Actually, I’ve worn this before.”

Senior Kate Tuttle laughed and said, “I got inspiration from my seventh grade self.”

Others took a slightly more “costume-box” approach to High Society Day. Junior Juliet Guynn wore a black ensemble complete with lace gloves, a feather cap, and cane. “Most of it is my mom’s — very classy,” she said. “I was kind of going for the dapper look, a dapper Charles Dickens thing.”

And according to senior Nick Van Nest, “I’m not a butler. I’m a parlor man!”
