Sounds of The Nutcracker, Jersey Boys, and “Jingle Bells” filled the auditorium last night as the 7th, 8th, and high school band played at their annual band festival. The community was invited to hear the students play what they have been practicing since the beginning of the year in both classes and private lessons. The 8th graders only had one official rehearsal with the high school before their performance last night.

“The purpose of the concert is to recruit the eighth graders,” said Band Director Scott Cranston. “The goal is to inspire and draw in the most band students who are interested and able to join the high school’s band next year.”
Many high school musicians in the show indicated that they were pleased with the overall performance and that they found working with the 7th and 8th graders to be enjoyable. “I think it went pretty well,” said sophomore Greg Brea, who has played trombone for five years and is in the NCHS jazz ensemble. “I think it’s pretty cool to give the band a chance to see who we will be working with next year.”

Junior Jake Hennessy, who plays the French horn in the NCHS concert band, agreed, “I think there is a lot of potential in the eighth grade that needs to be harvested.”
