“That was the most incredible game of basketball I have ever seen in my life. Incredibly bad. “

“It was the worst. Ever…ever.”

These are the things I heard in school the day following the championship game, but I completely disagree.

That’s right, true believer; I thought Monday night’s game between UConn and Butler was some of the most entertaining basketball of the entire tournament. Butler’s 18.8 percent shooting is straight-up atrocious. I think I’d have better luck out there blindfolded. However, poor performance does not always mean it was a poor game. In fact, I couldn’t keep myself from laughing at Butler’s poor luck in the second half. They were getting some decent shots, but none of them went in. It was like a force field surrounded the basket.

Sports are all about entertainment, and this was an entertaining game. It didn’t have a last-second shot like last year, but it still gave us plenty to talk about Tuesday morning. What I found to be the biggest disappointment was the entire tournament in general. Cinderella stories like VCU are only good if you go to the school, or were crazy enough to have them going far in your bracket. All the “disappointment” about the championship game stems from the fact that few of us really cared. We were all hoping for a 3-OT game to salvage a tournament of mediocrity and underachieving.

So congratulations, we have now reached the month of April. All the disappointment of March has washed away. The letters “V, C and U” still hurt, but no longer garner tears in our eyes. Baseball season has started, and hockey and basketball are about to enter their respective playoffs. I hope you have enjoyed tuning into this month of Balls as much as I have enjoyed writing it. I am also proud to announce that Balls will cover the NHL playoffs. It will focus on the Eastern Conference teams, primarily the Bruins and Rangers (should they make it), but I will also talk about the West and my Anaheim Ducks.
