Make your own inspiration!

Kelly Saiz

Making an inspiration board is so much fun because you can characterize your individual ideas into something that you can admire everyday. If I have trouble getting dressed, I know that I can always take a look at my style board to get my blood flowing.

An inspiration board doesn’t have to just be about fashion. It could be about music, people, beauty, or the places you’ve been and want to go. That’s what I love about it— you can do whatever you want.

Secret: it’s inexpensive to do this and you’ll get lasting results. If you’re yearning to do some shopping but know that you shouldn’t, do this instead.

It’s as simple as this: blast your music, grab a computer or a few magazines, cut up, print, or rip out anything that strikes you. There is no need to be really picky! Pin everything up…or if you’re feeling really up for it, make a collage.

Here’s the example that I can give you: my January 2010 inspiration board has a lot

of dresses on it. There’s everything from a year old photo of Sarah Jessica Parker in an Organza number by Chanel, to Megan Fox in Donna Karan.

In the collage there are pictures of Colin Firth, Kate Moss, Julie Andrews, and Emily Blunt (I’m going through a British phase, forgive me). One of my favorite pictures on the board is a gorgeous shot of a Christian Lacroix dress (top row, fifth to from the right).

There really are no rules. You can change it as much or as little as you like. Make it fit your style or make it fit the style that you want to have, even if just for a day. Add to it whenever you want.

Do you want to make it even more personal? Adorn your board or walls with pictures of family and friends. If there’s a picture of you that you really like, pin it up! Don’t hesitate.

Take it as seriously as you wish — or don’t take it seriously at all. It’s up to you. Turn style into something that you play by your own rules. Just get inspired!
