On Wednesday, May 26, the choir and the Madrigals will perform their final concert of the year at the First Presbyterian Church at 7:00. The choir’s repertoire ranges from Renaissance composers Josequin De Prez and Jacob Arcadelt to contemporaries Eric Whitacre and Morten Lauridsen. Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro and Don Giovanni are also included on the night’s song list.
The variety of songs was chosen not just for the audience, but for the singers as well. “The repertoire should keep the audience interested and also allow for the singers to cover a greater range,” Choir Director David Gomez said. “Singers focus on blending. The goal is to find one voice out of so many.”
Senior Stephanie Havens mirrored Mr. Gomez’s statement. “Every good choir tries to have a varied repertoire,” she said.
As the last concert of the year, it carries more weight than other performances. “I think it’s going to be more emotional, since this performance is what people are going to think about us afterward,” junior Chase Urban said.
Also, this is the last chance some seniors will get to sing in a performance. “This is the last time they might get to sing, so it’s a special event,” Mr. Gomez said. “They are working really hard to blend and the musicality is really amazing.”
The concert is open to all who wish to attend and will feature twelve mulit-lingual songs; four preformed by the whole choir and eight by the Madrigals.
