Hope in the Midst of Quarantine; Pollution Plummets

Every weekday, I will be posting bits of hope and positivity from around the world in the midst of the Coronavirus quarantine

Though an unintentional yet positive side affect of nationwide quarantines, recently pollution levels have dropped significantly in China, Northern Italy and New York. In China and Italy there have been falls in nitrogen dioxide (an air pollutant and strong warming chemical) due to less industrial activity and transportation. Carbon monoxide results in New York were reduced nearly 50% from last year.

In Venice’s infamous canals, water quality has improved drastically. With little to no water traffic, sediment has settled and the murky water is no longer. Fish are now being seen clearly once again.

Wildlife is continuing to thrive in these quiet times, providing a glimpse of what the world would look like if animals roamed free. Peacocks flit around Madrid…
