Every weekday, I will be posting bits of hope and positivity from around the world in the midst of the Coronavirus quarantine

The final result once you have finished 3D printing the design, as pictured on the website.

As we all know, for the past few weeks, healthcare workers everywhere have been working tirelessly around the clock to help those infected with the coronavirus. What most of us don’t know is how much those masks hurt when worn for extended amounts of time. When a Canadian hospital reached out for help, Canadian boy scout Quinn Callander delivered an ingenious invention.

Using his 3D printer, Quinn created “ear guards,” aimed to alleviate pressure the security straps have when constantly rubbing against the back of the ears and the head. He donated dozens of ear guards to the local hospital and shared the file publicly so that others can get printing for their local hospitals as well. It has been approved by the US National Institute of Health.

When searching Quinn’s invention on Twitter, I discovered that this isn’t Quinn’s first time being a hero. In 2014, he ran an extremely successful lemonade stand that raised over $50k for his friend, who has cerebral palsy, to have a life-changing surgery that will help him walk. I’m glad to know there are people like Quinn in this world!
