Homemade Sugar Cookies

Homemade Sugar Cookies

Although Christmas time may be over, I still wanted to share my family’s famous sugar cookie recipe. These Christmas Cookies could always be fun to make on a snow day!

Ever since I was young, I have always looked forward to Christmas cookie baking with my mom and grandma. My grandma’s homemade sugar cookie recipe is unmatched! Not a single Christmas cookie recipe can compare to her amazing cookies. This year, my family had to quarantine together. However, baking our famous Christmas cookies was something that we could do together as a family. They turned out great even though it was sort of difficult for me to taste them!

After letting the cookie dough cool, we used Christmas themed cookie cutters.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 beaten eggs
  • 2 tbs. sour milk (pour a few drops of vinegar into regular milk to sour it)
  • 1 tbs. soda
  • 1/2 tps. nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 3 cups flour
Frost the Christmas cookies with red and green icing and sprinkles!

Cream the sugar and butter. Add remaining ingredients. Mix and place in fridge for about an hour. Roll to an even thickness, cut and bake at 350 degrees for about 6-8 minutes. Note: The dough varies. You may have to add more flour. Do a test cookie in the oven to see if they keep their shape when baked. If they don’t, you may want to add more flour before you bake the rest. It’s time consuming to do this, but it’s worth it in the long run!
