Guide to 2023 Spirit Week Outfits

Class of 2027

With October 16 getting closer by the minute, now is the perfect time to start thinking about your outfits for Spirit Week. If you’re anything like me, you’re completely stumped for a number of reasons. It might be that you have nothing pink for Barbie/Ken day, or you have no idea how to style a 50’s outfit. Well, you’re in luck because I have formulated a perfect guide to help you glow with school spirit.

Monday: Pajama Day!

Pajama Day seems pretty self explanatory, just wear what you would wear to bed. But some people wear shorts and a T-shirt to bed and that doesn’t seem fun in mid-fall. Here are some outfit ideas that might spark your interest:

  • Outfit 1: Plaid pajama pants and a cozy sweater
  • Outfit 2: Baggy sweats and an oversized shirt or sweatshirt

Tuesday: Anything But A Backpack Day!

Anything But A Backpack Day presents a chance to be creative, with restrictions. You can use anything short of a living being. If you are struggling to find something that fits the theme and also isn’t a hassle, here are a few ideas:

  • Outfit 1: Try something as simple as a box or a crate but make sure that it has handle, or make your own if you can
  • Outfit 2: If you have ever carried a pillow case during halloween to carry your candy, you will understand this one. Simply grab the case right off your pillow, put all of your books in there and voila!
  • Outfit 3: If you are looking for something with a top, try one of these containers

Wednesday: Barbie/Ken Day!

In honor of the new movie and breast cancer awareness month, the school is inviting us to wear pink on Wednesday! If you really want to dress like a Barbie or a Ken, try some of these ideas:

  • Outfit 1: Anything cowboy themed! If you watched the movie you would know that Ken LOVES cowboys and horses.
  • Outfit 2: A beach shirt with a swimsuit shorts to really channel your inner beach
  • Outfit 3: Barbie is truly everything from a doctor to a lawyer, so dress as whatever your dream job is, but pink!

Thursday: Turn Back the Clock Day!

Every grade is dressed as a different time period on Thursday! Sadly, I know all of us don’t have 70s wear on hand but here are a few basic recognizable ideas.

  • 9th grade (50s): A great 50s inspo is the classic movie Grease! So simply jeans and a leather jacket will work. But don’t forget about the classic pink ladies jacket if you don’t mind a trip to Spirit Halloween.
  • 10th grade (60s): The 60s are known for tie dye and laid back clothing. A colorful cloth around your head, tie dye shirt, and sweatpants will do the trick.
  • 11th grade (70s): 70s fashion is colorful and timeless. Flared jeans or leggings paired with a colorful striped shirt or shirt with any extravagant pattern should work well here.
  • 12th grade (80s): The 80s is the era of Madonna and Michael Jackson but also the era of interesting fashion choices. A basic oversized graphic tee with leggings works great but a colorful vest with slightly baggy jeans works as well.

Friday/Saturday Pep Rally and Homecoming

Then comes the pep rally! Wear your favorite red and/or black Rams gear to support your favorite teams.. After school, you can then join classmates at the bonfire. And we can never forget the awaited homecoming game and dance. Wear your favorite disco outfit to the dance, and don’t forget to get tickets! Now that you are all set with your Spirit Week outfits, you can be fully prepared to show as much Rams spirit as possible.
