This Friday is the submission deadline for the upcoming New Age Film Festival. According to Jennifer Sinski, who organizes the event, students who are interested in submitting need to go the New Age Film Festival Website, where they can find a drop down menu with submission information.

Ms. Sinski encourages all students to submit their films. “Student filmmakers obviously put the effort, the work, the creativity into making a film, and whether it’s a film by them or by a group of people, they should share it and show the community what they’ve been working on,” she said.

The New Age Film Festival is not just for New Canaan High School, so the festival has an added level of prestige. “It’s a way towards achievement- taking the film to another level by competing against other young filmmakers in Fairfield County,” Ms. Sinksi said. “A lot of people will be competing for different awards, so it’s away to get exposure, achievement, and to be recognized. We understand the work and commitment that goes into making a movie.

The jurors this year are William Fitzgerald and Karen McLaughlin, who are both accomplished in the film industry. “The jurors will anonymously watch all the films in a category,” Ms. Sinski said. “They won’t know any of the names of the students, they just watch the movies. Then they judicate them, based on a rubric- the rubric can be found on the website- and then the jurors assign awards.”

The awards are presented on Wednesday May 23rd at the festival itself. “It’s a very fancy night,” Ms. Sinski said. “People dress up, everybody comes and does a red-carpet, there’s some food. During the show we get a reel with little pieces of each movie- if you win an award, we watch the whole movie.”

“I’m just really excited about this year. I think we have a great panel of jurors, and a lot of amazing student talent that will be showcased.”
