The field hockey team played Darien in the FCIAC finals on October 30th, at Brien McMahon High School, beating the Blue Wave 2-0 in the FCIAC championship for the first time in 14 years.  Needless to say, the team was thrilled. “Winning FCIACs was such a great feeling and the fact that it was Darien was an even better feeling,” Junior Catherine Granito said. “Coming out on top really showed our growth as a team from the first time we played both Wilton and Darien. I’m really proud of everyone on the team.”

“When we had everyone working together on the back line we prevented any goals from going in,” Junior Claire Conely said. “Our corner defense has been strong all year. We showed consistent excellence through the demonstration of doing our one job right: not letting anyone score and when no goals are scored you win.”

The girls came into the state tournament prepared after an FCIAC final win. They took on Bethel in the first round, and defeated the team 5-0, advancing them into the quarterfinals against Daniel Hand on Friday, November 7th. They lost in a tight game with a score of 2-1.

“We played well, we just had a slower start than we would have liked.” Catherine said. “Daniel Hand is a good team, but also a beatable one. Unfortunately, we didn’t come focused enough.”

“Some people on this team have certain jobs and when we all do those tasks and work together to accomplish them we typically win, but if there is one hole in the whole operation falls apart,” Claire said. “It was a tragic way to end the season but it was a great stretch.”
