Farewell to the Courant Seniors

Throughout this past year, the Courant has grown as both a publication and a family. Without the help and dedication from our beloved seniors, this year’s success would not have been possible. From the countless late nights to chaotic last days of production, the Courant seniors always put 110% effort into churning out a great issue.

Senior editors-in-chief Jake Neuberger and Allie Neugeboren were both productive and encouraging in helping each of the staff succeed. Allie’s editorials were often the spark of the paper – giving the Courant its own unique voice. Her bold, steadfast leadership gave each member of the staff a sense of direction to follow; she was our leader in the face of confusion.

Jake’s sense of humor brought life to late night despite the mindless hours of editing and setting page layouts. He was always willing to help younger staff members when they were beginning an unknown or difficult graphic.

Jillian Augustine’s exuberance and smile made each staff member feel like a part of a family – she always knew what to say to make your day just a little bit better! One of the highlights of the year was Jillian’s video interview on the college process. Although they almost burnt the house down, the video helped bond students from all three levels of the class.

Cat Levine’s creative spirit helped the staff explore and expand the Courant. Her hard work, readiness to help, and inventive ideas made working with the staff more exciting and interesting!

Eli O’Neill loved to explore new territory – he was never afraid to push the boundaries and was  a role model to all of us aspiring journalists. In the beginning of the year, Eli met with one of the first elected transgender officials in CT; a feat indicative of his commitment to producing incredible content.

Caroline Castle will be remembered for helping get chipotle every late night and having hysterical arguments with Jake. Her constant humor and friendly personality made journalism an entertaining place to be each day. Without Caroline, all of the seasonal blogs and student-friendly posts wouldn’t have been possible.

Abby’s kindness towards every staff member made the class all the more fun to be apart of. Abby will most likely be remembered for her contributions to the Courant blog posts.

Caroline Grogan ventured out of her comfort zone when she made an incredible graphic the night before the issue was printed. Her determination to confidently begin a last minute project inspired the staff to venture out of their comfort zones. Lily Decker showed her initiative when she joined the class during second semester. Although she didn’t have room in her schedule for journalism during first semester, Lily remained optimistic and joined the class with the drive to help produce great issues!

Thanks to each of our seniors, the 2017/2018 school year was a great year for the Courant. Each member of the staff was able to grow and feel as though they were part of a family throughout the year. To the class of 2018, you will all be missed and remembered by the Courant family. Thanks for a great year and good luck in the future!
