Dress for less

Many of us have heard the buzz of Natalie Portman’s recent appearance last weekend at the 9th Annual New York Arts and Leisure Weekend.

She was spotted with a mustard Rodarte for Target slip dress, belted with a vintage black leather belt over one of her own black cardigans.

Not only did Ms. Portman pull off this ensemble, but the dress only cost $39.99!

Rodarte for Target is the new GO international collection, which is a program that provides affordable clothing created by world-renowned designers. Rodarte credits their favorite films that inspire their off-beat style: Bonnie and Clyde, Rosemary’s Baby, and Harold and Maude.

Ms. Portman is one of many people contrary to the stereotypical celebrity. Similarly, Michelle Obama was immediately recognized for her great sense of style with a reasonable price.

Next time you go shopping, remember these tips to stay in your fashion budget:

1. Buy pieces that last.

The classic little black dress or cardigan (like the one Ms. Portman wore), will never go out of style, so don’t be afraid to invest in really nice ones. You can dress these pieces up or down with great accessories. Better yet, they will last forever.

2. If you are going to buy a fad, buy it cheap.

When you see styles like sequins or large purses that you know will have disappeared in a couple of months, buy the less expensive version and you’ll save a lot more in the long run.

3. Remember to always be yourself.

Don’t be afraid to take risks with clothing and express who you are. Buy the pieces you will enjoy to wear!
