On January 24, the Courant launched a mobile application to the Apple App Store, compatible with iOS devices. Though students and faculty can already view the Courant’s content digitally via nchscourant.com, the release of an app makes this content even more accessible. For instance, students, community members, and alumni across the globe can stay up to date with school news at the click of a button.
As of March 7, the app has had 126 downloads. Many students and staff members have already expressed appreciation for the app, as it has helped them prioritize staying up to date with school news. “Most students get their news from their smartphones, so having an app will likely give them easier access than print in this day and age,” library assistant Jordon Hensley said.
Additionally, the app’s features are slightly easier to navigate than the website on mobile devices. “I appreciate that I’m able to scroll through the most recently published stories right after opening the app on my phone,” senior Elizabeth McLaughlin said. “I also love the tool bar, which makes finding news so much easier for me. For example, if I want to read an article about sports, all I have to do is click ‘sports’ on the app.”
Above all, the release of the NCHS Courant App uplifts the spirit of the digital age while striving to bolster a sense of community at the high school. “It’s important to adapt to technology, which the Courant allows us to do,” Elizabeth said.
