School colors of red and black overtook almost the student population on Red and Black day, Oct. 21. Red and black day is a time for school spirit, unity, and the spirit day that usually has the most participation–and intensity–of all the other Spirit Week days.

“You can wear shorts there?” the older lady from New Jersey said to me as we sat on the plane heading to Turkey. “I’ve brought only long clothes since it’s a Muslim country.” For as long as I have been coming to Turkey, my family and I have always met tourists who were surprised about these kinds of cultural norms. In Turkey, not every woman wears a headscarf and even though the food may look unappetizing and mysterious, it’s actually really good.

From today until July 11, soccer will stand on top of the world because the much-anticipated 2010 FIFA World Cup has begun. Tears will be shed, punches will be thrown, outbursts of joy will be heard, but most importantly, the glory of winning will be bestowed upon one lucky country.

Last night in front of a packed house at Terry Connors Ice Rink, the boys’ ice hockey team won an overtime thriller in their FCIAC semifinal matchup against the St. Joseph Cadets with a score of 4-3.
