After checking her phone, a senior girl seethes as she witnesses a twitter-picture of an Obama ‘12 magnet that someone had jokingly stuck on her car. What a sick joke. And when her friend was asked what she would do if someone was to cover the entirety of her pristine white car with Obama bumper stickers she replied, “I would sue!”

I have been asked that questions approximately 1,213, 545 times. The pool of those who have inquired include fellow students, close friends, strangers, teachers, and my own parents. My answer, a simple “no,” often produces a fierce barrage of insistence:

A few years ago “college” was merely a distant milestone, a backdrop for summer comedies, and perhaps your father’s favorite nostalgic topic. But now, as my fellow seniors and I plunge into the application process, “college” has lost its quotation marks and has become a serious reality. And like most serious realities, it is not always a walk in the quad.So, for the sake of my peers’ mental health, I have made a list of a few observations and guidelines for the inevitable family college tour.
