Career Night brings industry expertise to NCHS

Students will be able to make real world business connections with industry professionals from 24 different types of job specialization on Career Night. The event, which last occurred 2 years ago, will return from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Mar. 27 at the high school. With an array of occupations being presented Career Night offers an introduction to, or further education in, areas of interest for all students.
Variety of new science courses available to students

With the conclusion of online course registration for the 2013-2014 school year, next year’s juniors and seniors may have seen that the science department will be offering three new courses to them this fall. The new courses include forensics, human anatomy and physiology and AP environmental science. All of these courses will be electives and will be available to upperclassmen based on previous science courses taken.
New standardized testing to be introduced

The Connecticut Academic Performance Test (CAPT) is the standardized testing that sophomores have been taking since the early nineties. The tests are state-based exams used to measure the performance of Connecticut students. “The exams are used to test student proficiency across the state,” Principal Dr. Bryan Luizzi said. “They are brought in to align high school curriculums with state standards.”

With Career Night tomorrow, the committee is making final preparations for the event. However, those running the event are not the only ones doing last minute alterations, as speakers are also planing for the big night.
