Pura Vida holds third annual Flag Football Tournament

The Pura Vida club hosted their third annual flag football tournament Sunday, November 8 on the water tower field. There were 23 teams and 151 players.

Sharon Knechtle founded Pura Vida at NCHS four years ago after she went on a mission trip with students. They enjoyed the trip and weren’t ready to have it all end, she said. As a result, they decided to make a year-round club dedicated to helping the world’s impoverished people.

Midterm election keeps CT Democrats in office

Last Tuesday, November 2nd America voted in the midterm elections. The Democrats maintained their majority in the Senate but the Republicans gained control over the House of Representatives. According to Yahoo and Google News, as of this coming January, the Republicans will hold 239 seats to the Democrats’ 188 seats in the House. The Democrats will have 53 seats to the Republicans’ 46 in the Senate.

One year ago, senior Isabella Carillo’s beloved horse, Polo, was stolen by a horse trader, leading Isa to found the Polo Foundation last summer. The foundation aims at preventing the slaughter of horses and ponies.

First introduced as an independent study project, the Financial Literacy class was launched this year. The course aims to help students achieve their goals through prudent and informed management of their financial resources. Today, Financial Literacy is offered to high schoolers in thirteen states and mandatory for them to take in nine.
