Professional Development Day

While students are enjoying their first day of winter break on Friday, teachers and faculty will be attending their semi-annual department party known as Professional Development Day. For four days out of the year, New Canaan teachers get together to work on new skills, focus on curricular issues, listen to speakers, and watch presentations done by faculty members.

On Saturday, the Varsity Girl’s Hockey Team held a Family Free Skate fundraiser at Terry Connors Ice Rink in Stamford. The fundraiser was designed to support the players and to help pay for practices at local ice rinks (practice time on the ice can be costly). Super Bowl Sunday is more than just a football game

Only two of the twelve teams that entered the NFL postseason nearly a month ago have remained. In only a few days, the Indianapolis Colts will be competing against the New Orleans Saints for the Lombardi Trophy. The Colts and Saints both feature high powered offenses led by Peyton Manning and Drew Brees, and both teams boast big play defenses hungry for turnovers. 2nd Annual Girls Hockey Free Skate this Saturday

Tomorrow, the Varsity Girl’s Hockey Team will be hosting a “Family Free Skate,” from 6:30-8, at Terry Connors Ice Rink in Stamford.

The team is selling tickets for $10 throughout the week, however, tickets will also be sold at the door for $10.

The Free Skate is the hockey team’s main fundraiser for the year. Junior tri-captain Jana Persky explained the purpose of the fundraiser. “Since hockey is an expensive sport, with ice time costing up to $450 an hour, players are responsible for more than $20,000…” Jana said.
