Midterm Survival Guide: 2013

Last week, I walked into my science classroom and noticed a sign near the white board. It read, “Warning: Midterms are closer than they appear.” I’m sorry but that is just such a bad joke…and I didn’t laugh. I immediately had flashbacks to my eyes being completely bloodshot, the feeling you get when you realize that you needed to have those forty-two Spanish flashcards memorized by, yesterday, and the sweet taste of stress. Nobody likes to take tests, except for maybe that one kid in your class that hands in their test nearly half an hour before everyone else. Didn’t Cady Heron teach you that failing on purpose doesn’t get you the guy? I love that color on you.

Conference Championship games preview

The final four in the NFL has been set. After two round of the playoffs, the Ravens, Patriots, 49ers, and Falcons are the only teams that remain. The only surprising team that is left is the Ravens, they beat the #1 seeded Broncos in Denver last week when they came from behind in the last minute to tie the game and then won it in overtime with a field goal. I ended up going 2-2 last week with my picks. The Seahawks lost on a field goal in the last 10 seconds, and mentioned above, the Broncos were upset by the Ravens. That means that I’m 5-3 so far in the playoffs. At the beginning of the season I predicted a 49ers/Patriots Super Bowl, and I don’t see why I’d change that prediction now. Nevertheless, here is what I think about the games this weekend:

The New Carrie Bradshaw

As the worlds biggest Sex and the City fan, I wasn’t sure what to expect when I heard that the CW had decided to launch a prequil to the 1998 TV series. The Carrie Diaries follows the infamous Carrie Bradshaw before she became New York’s bestselling columnist, as a struggling teenager in high school trying to find her passion. After months of speculation, critics felt that AnnaSophia Robb would never be able to fill the Manolo Blahnik shoes that Sarah Jessica Parker did, and I was expecting to mourn what had become my favorite show. However, I found myself pleasantly surprised.
