I am a proud Day Trip enthusiast, and Connecticut is a beautiful state which, I often take for granted. Because it’s spring and summer is nearby, I decided to list a few of my favorite Day Trip spots in CT! These Day Trips are perfect for spending time outdoors with family and friends or simply going solo and enjoying all that Connecticut has to offer!

Old Saybrook Inn watching the sun go town!
  1. Old Saybrook during Sunset:

Old Saybrook in CT is by far my favorite destination for a day trip! It’s only a forty-minute drive which isn’t bad given how gorgeous the sunsets are. My family and I drove to Old Saybrook to walk alongside the boardwalk and walked around the entire town, which was pretty therapeutic. There are lots to do, including mini-golf, sunset watching at the marina, and excellent restaurants. My mom and I went to eat dinner at the Old Saybrook Inn! This was an enjoyable girls trip for my mom and me, and I would recommend visiting Old Saybrook this summer!

2. Old Lyme hiking and nature trails:

Old Lyme nature walk that opens up to a lake.

Old Lyme was also another of my favorite day trips. Old Lyme is pretty close to Old Saybrook, but I would definitely recommend Old Lyme to someone who is looking for a beautiful nature walk or chill hiking trails. My family and I visited Old Lyme and we really enjoyed the nature walk it was very peaceful. Old Lyme also has a cute town to check out with lots of great restaurants.

3. Rowayton Pizza and Sunset:

One of my favorite last-minute day trips is Rowayton because it is very close, and I love it there! My favorite thing to do is buy Rowayton pizza and eat it on Bailey’s Beach picnic tables. Rowayton pizza is the perfect place to go with friends or family when you want to get out of the house and do something outdoors, but you are lazy and don’t know what to do.

4. Lake Waccabuc:

Lake Waccabuc is technically in New York, but I like to consider it Connecticut because it is so close. This is the most fun place I have ever been to. I would recommend going during the summer since the water is cold, but this lake is always an enjoyable time. People go cliff jumping (I wouldn’t recommend it), and you can swim there whenever you want! Lake Waccabuc is also a super close drive and is one of the most accessible day trips.

5. Pleasant Valley drive-in movie:

Last but not least is the Pleasant Valley drive-in movie! This was the first drive-in movie that I had ever been to, and I loved it. The drive-in is in the Litchfield County area, and my friends and I drove up during the power outage this summer. It was such a fun escape, and there was a concession stand there too! The movie that played was Shrek, and we could control the music from inside our cars too!
