The first day of school is always exciting, whether you are a freshman, senior, or teacher. And new teachers are lumped right in there as they are starting a new journey. This year NCHS is welcoming more than 6 new teachers in all many departments. From teachers moving up from Saxe, and a new Assistant Principal there are many new faces in the school this year.

The language is department is welcoming 3 new teachers. Jacquelynn Aldrich and Lauren Mattera who are teach Spanish and Stephanie Kremer who teaches French. Ms.Aldrich was a long-term sub last year who is now working full time in her own classroom.

Technically Ms.Aldrich started her journey here at NCHS much farther back than this year. She graduated from NCHS in 2008 and attended the University of Mary Washington in Virginia. Coming back as a long-term sub and now a full-time teacher. “Last year I started out as a long-term sub, but the teacher never came back, so this year has been a transition in the sense I’m starting the year off on a different foot,” said Ms.Aldrich.

The language department is not the only place seeing new faces. Kerry Hamara is a new math teacher, A.J Albano is a new gym teacher, Ken Riley is a new science teacher and Laura Struzzi is a new English teacher. The Special Education department has 3 new teachers this year, Lisa Voll, Andrea MacGilpin and Colleen Bailey. Moving up from Saxe Middle School was Monica Sheena into the Library and Pamela Janeiro, an English teacher.

Additionally, we also have a new vice principal. Coming from 11 years at Brien McMahon High School in Norwalk she has lots of experience. Kristi Carriero is taking the place of Mr. Guisitsch who moved down to Saxe “For myself, a good goal is just getting to know as many students and families as possible. And of course, help each student reach their full potential.” Said Ms.Carriero.

“A big difference for me as an administrator is the open campus, which I love. I think it’s great that students have the opportunity to have freedom and choice during the day,” said Ms. Carriero. Although Ms.Carriero is getting used to the changes of a new school just like many people she is excited for the school year ahead.

“The students have been awesome, just friendly and respectful, everyone has done a great job of being warm and welcoming,” said Mrs.Carriero.
