On Monday, May 16th, students, teachers, and faculty alike gathered at Dunning Field and Hawes Plaza to partake in the All School Picnic. Sponsored by Student Advocates, the Student Coalition, Charity Link, and the Buddies Club, this celebration marked a transition away from pandemic restrictions. The last All School Picnic was held in 2019 before Covid -19 precautions canceled the event for the following two years. Long awaited, Principal Bill Egan was thrilled to bring the picnic back in full swing for 2022.

Crowds of students and staff congregated on the football field to enjoy can-jam, corn hole, spike ball, volleyball, and more. Up at Hawes Plaza, student bands performed while a picnic lunch and ice cream sandwiches were served. Seniors, having left for internships on May 22, returned to see friends and teachers, as well as partake in the festivities. The last time they attended the picnic, it had taken place at the track field.

Perhaps the most popular attraction of the event, students also attempted to drench teachers and staff at the dunk tank organized by Charity Link. Don’t worry, faculty participation was not mandatory. The sun was hot and the water was cold, a combination one might even dare to call refreshing. Social Studies teacher Michael Staffaroni arrived for the tank decked out in floaties, an inner tube, and carrying signs to motivate students. One read, “Your throws are like your thesis statements – weak and unfocused.”

Principal Bill Egan also decided that, although it was fun to watch, he would not be getting in that dunk tank. Instead, students took their shot at dunking teachers such as Reka Cebulski, Kerry Hamara, Michael Staffaroni and more. Meanwhile, Principal Egan spent some time on Dunning Field, playing corn hole and chatting with students. “The Picnic has been awesome. The weather? Amazing. All the games and the camaraderie? Excellent. And of course we’re winning,” he said.
