A farewell to the beloved class of 2022: it’s been real

A farewell to the beloved class of 2022: it’s been real

Dear Seniors,

“How lucky we are to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.” – Winnie the Pooh

Another year on the Courant has passed, and the staff has been more amazing than ever. We are especially grateful for the incredible work our thirteen seniors have accomplished over the course of their time on the Courant, and thus we would like to commemorate each of them individually. While we had a ton of fun blasting music and filming Tik Toks on Late Night, we were continually able to produce strong and well-rounded issues, and each and every one of our seniors played a major role in accomplishing that. As the future leaders of the newspaper, we are confident that we can continue the streak of success, because whether they know it or not, they all have taught the class to not just be skilled writers, interviewers, photographers and designers, but also insightful thinkers and inspiring leaders.

Our beloved Social Media Editor, Evie Bradley, is a great person to start off our commemoration with. Evie single-handedly ran our both informative and witty Instagram account (@nchs_courant) by engaging the student body with a variety of polls and Instagram Reel videos to keep everyone entertained. She could whip up the perfect Instagram caption or Tik Tok video, all while tap dancing around the classroom.

Organized and committed Editor-in-Chief Catherine Burges played an integral role in leading the Courant staff towards another great year. You could always count on Catherine to pull up a chair next to your computer and give you a tutorial step-by-step on anything you needed. She also was able to adapt to changes extremely well. We will miss her sunshine attitude and her eagerness to get up in front of the class and give us the low-down.

Our star blog editor, Keira Cooney, has set the bar high for the creative side of the Courant. Whether she was sharing her book opinions, recording a podcast episode, or filming “15 questions with Assistant Principal Ari Rothman,” Keira always found a way to keep our content fun and entertaining for the entire school community.

Aside from being a “fearless” Editor-in-Chief, Lauren Doherty has also “enchanted” us with fabulous late night tunes, often featuring her favorite artist, Taylor Swift. As a second-year EiC, she knows the Courant “all too well” and has never failed to produce “gorgeous” content. And even though Taylor was likely playing from the projector speaker during Late Night, Lauren was still an extremely focused and determined leader of Late Night. (She was also almost always in charge of making sure we had food!)

Kate Hunter, another one of our inspiring Editors-in-Chief, always found a way to bring positive energy to class. Her superb layout editing skills and versatile writing ability truly made her a standout this year. No matter what section Kate was placed in, you could count on her producing a quality story. We also give her the “Best Laugh” award because we could always find her giggling in class.

Many of our engaging layouts from this year can be attributed to another star EiC, Aleena Nasruddin. Not only has Aleena consistently produced fabulous layouts, stories, and media, but she has also kept us organized and on track for every cycle. There is a reason she is the owner of almost every file on our Google Drive, because she is always setting us up for success.

If we ever were in need of a story proposal, media idea, or simply someone to chat with, Arts & Tech Editor Larson Riccoboni was our girl. Larson’s unchanging energetic spirit and dependability made her a fixture on the Courant team. She could always be found involved in a deep insightful conversation with Lauren about TSwift, but her real passion is her professional photography skills. It is not always easy for a senior to hop into Journalism for one year, but Larson slipped right in almost as if she had always been there.

Editor-in-Chief Imogen Rawlings-Green was always able to lend a helping hand because of her insane graphic skills and writing abilities. She could jump in to solve any issue, and played an instrumental role in producing quality content. Imogen’s calming demeanor both in class and on late night has helped us through every stressful situation.

Editor-in-Chief Julie Song, with her vast knowledge of the Courant, was a key asset to our staff, having truly special abilities in both graphic design and writing. Even when Julie was not assigned to be the “Media EiC” for the cycle, she was still always consulted with everything media-related. For example, we’ll never forget how many times Julie was asked how to text wrap an object in an InDesign layout. Thank you, Julie.

Executive Editor Caroline Vincent truly helped revolutionize the podcasting capabilities of the Courant. Because of her work setting up the studio and producing really diverse and captivating podcasts, we can expect some really solid content on our YouTube to be produced.

Caroline’s partner-in-crime and fellow Executive Editor Maeson Wagner was also a key member of the Executive Council, with her fun and upbeat energy that was a pleasure to have in class. Maeson was constantly able to write some really powerful, hard-hitting stories that every paper is looking to have.

Senior Editors Malek Sidani and Xander Walther may have been some of our quieter seniors in the class, but their talents for opinion writing and video editing are unmatched. We could always count on Malek to write passionate opinion articles on pressing issues, and Xander to produce quality, professional video stories.

And so, quoting the ever-wise Dr. Seuss, we say to you all… “oh the places you’ll go!”

Best Wishes,

Ava, Lauren, Peyton, and Serena

2022-23 Editors-in-Chief
