“We are really excited about what the team can do this year,” said head coach Paul Gallo on the upcoming season. In coach Gallo’s first year back from a three-year hiatus as head coach, he and his team will look to continue the program’s upward trend.
Part of the reason the team has high hopes for the upcoming season is the number of talented upperclassmen it brings back. Four senior captains return to the team hoping to end their wrestling careers with a bang; Tucker Milligan, RJ Decamillo, Thomas Goetz and Gilbert Clay, a group looking to lead by example with a large number of first-year wrestlers coming into the program.
Coach Gallo is thankful to have so many experienced captains on the team. “They’ve done it before and have been doing it for years. We have twelve freshmen this year, so it helps when you have older guys to show them the work ethic needed to succeed,” he said.
The team also returns important younger wrestlers from last year’s team, including sophomores Michael Gabriel and Cael Wilderman along with standout junior Trey Kaupp.
The mixture of newcomers and older wrestlers allows the team to have an eye on bigger and better things. “We are looking to be competitive in every match and finish above .500 on the year,” coach Gallo said.
