MLB Predictions/Catch up

We’re about three weeks removed from Opening Day, but the baseball season is still in its infancy. That means we’ve got enough time left to make some predictions.

AL East- New York Yankees. The Yankees didn’t have any big signings over the winter, but they did make a few beneficial moves. The AL East will be very competitive, but the Yankees are the best team. C.C Sabathia anchors the rotation, and Mark Teixera, Curtis Granderson, and Alex Rodriguez are part of a strong lineup. Granderson and Jeter are on fire thus far, each with an OPS over 1.000.

Every Wednesday, junior Molly Stine teaches third graders as a Walter Schalk instructor. Every moment is bittersweet, knowing that when she moves onto college she will miss the program and all it has offered. Other NCHS students are less dejected about moving on, as some admitted to participating in certain activities or taking certain classes solely to build their resumes.

NCHS Free the Children Water Walk this Sunday

The charity driven and education promoting organization, Free the Children strives to empower youths to free the Earth’s population of the cycle of poverty. Locally, Free the Children clubs have been organized as schools such as NCHS, Saxe Middle sChool, South School and Saint Lukes.

“The goal of free the children is to empower youth to change the world,” junior Liza Swindell said. “They work 50% locally and 50% globally to help with such things as sustainable development, health care and education.”

The Buffet Rule

The Buffett Rule, proposed by President Obama has created an immense amount of tension leading to the upcoming Presidential election of 2012. The White House specifically stated the definition of the Buffett Rule: “No household making more than $1 million each year should pay a smaller share of their income taxes than a middle class family”. This seems like a reasonable statement, however that is not what President Obama has been encouraging throughout his speeches.

When walking into the local Walmart, it’s hard not to notice the pre-cut vegetable aisles, pre-made dinner refrigerators, and even large fast food chains within the superstore. Because made-to-go-food is accessible to us at all hours of the day, many choose to eat these convenient and easy meals.
