In writing this I attempted to keep track of all the new mistresses that Tiger Woods had been with, as new ones appeared every day. I lost count after five. This man, or should I say international icon, was literally on top of the world. A smoking hot wife in former Swedish model Elin Nordegren, more money then any one man needs, worth nearly $900 million, two beautiful children and endorsement deals from several top companies including Nike and Gatorade, he had everything. Or so we thought. A simple case of reckless driving combined with a report from the National Inquirer has sent Tiger’s life into a tailspin, destroying his marriage in the process.
Apparently Tiger Woods, much like countless other popular figures including politicians like John Edwards and Mark Sanford as well as NBA superstar Kobe Bryant, was not satisfied and needed to have a secretive mistress (or 11 of them) to which he could send promiscuous text messages and voicemails. The worst part: from the time he joined the PGA tour in 1996, he has presented himself as a purely genuine person. But then again, don’t they all?
The world we live in has become one of lies and affairs. No one is safe. Much like the steroids issue in the MLB, it is impossible to assume that anyone is “clean” anymore. So many of these big time athletes, politicians and other modern icons have been caught cheating that I have been starting to question if a genuine person remains in the world.
Athletes used to be role models for the kids of America. Now these men are beginning to have an utter negative influence on our youth, as new scandals appear every month. Once a privilege, success now breeds a sense of entitlement that leads to these despicable actions that are simply unacceptable in society, no matter if you are worth $900 million or one penny.
Although they may appear indestructible with their unbelievable strength, speed and talent, Tiger has proven that athletes are mere humans like the rest of us. Yet, as a human living in society, he must face the consequences and international embarrassment of his actions.
