Upon walking into the library this year, one may notice the new computers and new couches, but on further investigation it can be found that so much more is going on behind the scenes of the NCHS library.

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) librarian Christina Russo highlighted the changes to the library’s website.  “We’ve updated our databases, we’ve streamlined some [of]what we think will be useful to kids,” she said. “We’re expanding because our kids want more.”

Ms. Russo explained that with the changes in the website comes the addition of new technologies, including the e-book collection. “We keep expanding our e-content, we’re adding new e-books to our collection,” she said. “[For exmple] all of these books I ordered for the sciences we’ve also ordered them in e-content.”

While the library continues to add new technologies for students to increase at home accessibility, they are not quick to forget the technologies of years past, such as the QR codes. “We are really going to try to get kids to use their mobile devices more for productivity and learning, not just for a social device,” Library Department Chair Michelle Luhtala said. “There are six apps that every kid should have if you have an app ready device. [The codes] link them to how to download the app not the app itself.”

Apps and technologies of the library aside there are also many additions to the layout of the library. Sophmore Nina Larson thinks the new couches are a great place to chill after a long day of school work. “The couches are a good place for students to just sit and study and not get stressed out,” she said.
