With spring in full swing, the snow has melted, widening the once crowded roads. Along with the beautiful weather, NCHS welcomes a handful of new, often reckless sophomore drivers to the parking lot community. From geese to squirrels and parking to speeding, these students have seen it all behind the wheel.
“I live on the top of this giant hill and I was driving down it at 45 mph on my way to SAT class one morning. The hill was sheer ice and the brakes weren’t doing anything, so I was slipping and spinning all over the place. I only stopped when I slammed into a fire hydrant. When I realized that I wasn’t stopping. I braced for impact.” –Cameron ‘16
“I dropped my friend off at her house and I was pulling out of her street and broke threelaws in the course of six minutes. First, I mildly cut off a police officer, but didn’t realize he was a police officer. I was speeding a little bit because I thought he was tailgating me; and then I rolled through a stop sign. I was pulled over and the best part was I didn’t even get a ticket.”

“I was on South Avenue and this squirrel decided to run across the road, conveniently timed during my first experience behind the wheel. I didn’t know if I should stop, keep going, or swerve since I had never been to a driving class. Well, I decided to keep going and that squirrell was killed unfortunately. I actually had to pay to get the squirrel blood off the car because seeing squirrel blood on a driving school car is not good for the image of the company. Honestly it was very upsetting…and still is, I can still picture it jumping out in front of the car.” – Georgia ‘16
I was taking the two minute drive to the YMCA. I was in the right lane and my friends pulled up in the left lane. I said, ‘Yo what up dog’ and I wasn’t paying attention. Then he had the green arrow and started going. Seeing him go I assumed, ‘oh we must be moving’. I just took my foot off the brake and boom! There was a bus. Everyone was fine, kids weren’t flying out like debris and the bus wasn’t damaged at all.”

“I currently have my license suspended because I was driving home from practice and I was calling my mom and my phone was in my lap (it was on speaker phone). The cop saw the phone apparently, when I was pulling around. Since he saw my mouth moving and there was nobody was in the car, he pulled me over and he gave me a 175 dollar ticket. The worse part is the way to get my license reinstated is to pay another $175 ticket.” – Oliver ’16
“I was driving down a backroad to my friend’s house and in the distance there was a goose strolling across the street. I didn’t even flinch because he was going at a constant speed; I thought he would make it across in time. Sadly, I was wrong and he took longer than I thought he would and I bumped him a little. He seemed fine I got out of the car and followed him to make sure he wasn’t dead. He waddled off and looked healthy, he wasn’t missing legs or anything it was just a little bump.”- Emma ‘16
