The girls tennis team recently won the 5th seed of the state tournament, which is the highest the team has placed in five years. They are advancing into state playoffs on June 5.

The girls tennis team is ready for the state tournament and is happy with the seeding they got. “We would love to get the finals this year, so I think it would be amazing if we could get to the semis or the finals,” Coach Catherine Walker said. “We actually wouldn’t meet Staples until the finals because they are on the other side of the draw. We would love to play them again because we actually had a lot of really close games with them.”

Coach Walker will be staying with her same game plan for the next game and said she feels optimistic about the upcoming games. “We have strong singles for states. I feel really good about our four singles and our number one doubles team is amazing with Jordyn Lee and Annabelle Braun. I don’t really have to watch them play anymore,” Coach Walker said. “Our number one and number two doubles are really strong. We have some real talent on the team and I’ve never coached a team like this. They mesh so well and they are a great group of girls.”

Jordyn Lee, captain of the girls tennis team and ranked 28th in the state per USTA, was excited about the newcomers this year. “Everyone is really motivated this year. There are seven new players this year that are all younger, so they’re all motivated to win,” she said.

Jordyn also said she feels optimistic about her team and their season. “We’ve had a good record so far in the regular season and I feel good about potentially winning states,” she said. “I would say the team and the overall dynamic has changed a lot. I feel like everyone is really motivated this year to win. All the new kids are especially motivated.”

The team will look to continue their success in the state playoffs with the opening round of the singles and doubles tournaments on Saturday, June 5. “The team is very connected and like family to each other,” Coach Walker said.
