The day Pitt ruined my life

To quote Freddy Mercury, “I’m going slightly mad”. It’s a severe case of March Madness, but not the kind I was hoping for. By reading this blog, I assume you know how the Butler-Pitt game ended. If you don’t know, watch this (at your own peril).

I’m assuming this is the correct video, I just can’t bare to watch that atrocity a second time. In a matter of seconds, Pitt managed to break my heart three times. For the sake of this blog, I will run you through what was going on in my mind.

7.1 seconds left – Okay, Pitt has a single point lead. All they need to do is keep Butler off the scoreboard for seven more seconds. I was understandably nervous, yet confident that the team I picked to go to the finals would hold Butler off. (Envision me on my knees praying to the gods of March)

4.5 seconds left – Don’t do it man, don’t do it!

2.2 seconds left – He did it. The game is over. I’m ready to punch a hole in the tv.

1.5 seconds left – WAIT! There’s hope! Pitt is going to put a great player on the line. We’re gonna win this game, or at the very least send it into OT.

Still 1.5 seconds left – He made the first and made…oh no. He missed the second. I want to be mad, but I’m just happy this baby is going into overtime.

.8 Seconds left – COME ON! Pitt, have you learned nothing?! Is it really that hard to not foul a player? Seriously, what are the chances Butler heaves up a miracle shot? They certainly couldn’t do it against Duke last year. With that free throw, my bracket has officially been busted. And it’s not even the end of the weekend.

12:56 – I cry myself to sleep, while at the same time conjuring up intricate ways in which my bracket can be salvaged. Well UCONN and Notre Dame, it’s time to show us what you’re really made of!

Is there a message that can be drawn from my heartache? Not one that I can see. Except perhaps that I am not officially withdrawing my application from Pitt. Apparently discipline is something they don’t teach at that school.

Amen brother! I feel your pain completely. Maybe I should start a help group for those affected by this disaster.
